Practising sport in cold weather

It’s still winter! Some athletes take a break during winter time. Is this necessary? Should you give up on your sport during the cold winter months? The answer is NO! It is not necessary to stop your favorite sport during the winter. Your body can perfectly adapt to the cold weather. Below you can find some tips.

In winter it is important to:

-stay hydrated

-not getting cold

-give your body enough energy

Should you drink more in winter?

Even in winter, it is still very important to drink sufficiently and regularly, despite the fact that you probably have less thirst. Your body still sweats and in addition, the air is usually drier in winter which increases water loss from the respiratory tract. To prevent dehydration, drink a mouthful of sports drink (e.g. 3Action Sports Drink or 3Action Energy Mix) every 10-15 minutes. Our 3Action Sports Drink can be drunk hot too. Do you need warmer clothes during winter?

In order not to get cold it is obviously important to be well dressed. Wear multiple layers so that you can pull out a piece of clothing once you have warmed up. Protect most of the body's ends, which are most exposed to the cold. So wear a hat and gloves when it gets too cold!

Should you eat more carbohydrates or fats in winter?

Nutrition based on carbohydrates is most appropriate, even during winter trainings. Carbohydrates are the fuel for your body, they promote muscle activity. You need to get enough energy to compensate for your energy consumption. So you should definitely not eat more fats. As an athlete, you do not need an extra layer of fat during the winter.

Just make sure you are dressed warm enough, eat and drink enough and stay active.

So do not be afraid of the cold!
